Movement In Motion 💪🏽
What Does Movement do for our Mind?
Life is more than just hanging on for the ride.
However, it’s easy to feel like we’re just hanging on, especially when you look at your day-to-day lifestyle.
Sometimes it can feel like we’re just going through the motions, and mostly those consist of the reactive kind. We all feel it; it’s the feeling of waiting for something to happen before you change your routine, go to the doctor, or even just accept there might be something off.
The common denominator in this is FEELING.
So when you think about feelings and why we have them, it all comes down to survival.
You may feel anxious because your body is trying to anticipate a situation to keep you safe. You may feel stress because your body is signaling to you that it’s being overwhelmed by how many things you take on at once. You feel joy because your body is responding to chemical stimuli like Serotonin, Dopamine and others.
All of which are reactions!
Sometimes they feel good, and sometimes they feel like this…

Why are we talking about reactions? Well, because the more you know about reactions, the more understanding you’ll have about being proactive.
Google’s definition of proactive is “creating or controlling a situation by causing something to happen rather than responding to it after it has happened.”
One of the ways I enjoy being proactive is through body movement. 💃🏽
I realized that in order to get my nervous system to have the reactions that made me feel good (dopamine, serotonin), I had to start being proactive. I started trying new things like snowboarding, rock climbing, dancing, and the physical practice of yoga. All very body movement-based.
Little did I know that these practices would become cornerstones of my life. I even started to just walk around. Taking 10 minutes to take a lap around the house when I had even a second to myself. Making sure I’m fully present in my body. I had no idea how beneficial those small changes would be!
Changed my life, haha
So now I’m always down to try new things to see what benefits they’ll have on me. I know I really need some of the benefits too because I be willin’ out 😂
Some of the more widely researched benefits that movement has on our minds are:
Improved Sleep
Reduced Stress
Better Memory Recall
Emotional Outlet (Self Expression)
Sound like you could use some of those goodies too?
If so, leave a comment on one new movement practice or activity you’re going to implement or at least try in the next week. (I could use some new ideas, so go off friend!)
Let’s get moving!
